MIKE BARR

Photographer • Traveler • Writer

Crafting this section was a challenge. In today's sea of creators, photographers, explorers, and adventurers, it's difficult to sum up who I am.

I first experimented with a camera during my awkward middle school years, a time when my hair was unruly and card tricks fascinated me; I dreamed of building a YouTube career showcasing card magic to strangers. I’m not kidding: those videos are still out there.

Looking back, that awkward kid would be proud of how far I've come and the incredible life I've led since then. It's astonishing to think how much has changed. I’m a nomad. A photographer. An artist on the move.

Most importantly, my time on the road has transformed my love for photography into a powerful medium; one that allows me to perceive the world from a unique perspective, connect with fascinating people, and share captivating stories.

Photography has been my compass, guiding me through life's remarkable adventures. With each click of the shutter, I'm reminded of the incredible journey I've had and the thrilling ones yet to come.

As I navigate uncharted territories and embrace the unknown, I invite you to come along for the ride. Let's embark on this extraordinary photographic voyage together, where every frame tells a story and every image sparks the flame of wanderlust within. Join me as we celebrate the beauty of life's journey, one exhilarating moment at a time. Together, we'll uncover the art of travel, and revel in the freedom of the open road.

Black and White Self Portrait of Mike Barr, taken in Medellin, Colombia.

In August 2021, after four years of 9-5 office work, I quit my job. Over the ensuing weeks, I sold/donated nearly all my belongings. What wasn’t sold was packed onto the back of my 2008 Suzuki VStrom 1000, and on September 10th, 2021, I left New York on a multi-year, two-wheeled trek around the world.

I’ve hung from the walls of the High Sierras, and slept below the stars on the beaches of Northern California. I’ve laughed myself to tears around campfires with friends I’d just met hours earlier. I’ve ridden across the barren deserts of the Southwest USA, bear country in Canada, and the cartel-controlled highways of western Mexico. I’ve crashed, fallen, slipped, and tumbled across every country in North America, and have left a trail of exhilarating memories in my wake over the last 60,000 miles.
